I have been less than complimentary about Canada’s efforts (and in particular those of our governments) in AI regulation. So it is nice to see some forward looking expressions of thought regarding the regulation of AI coming from our country. As well as a recognition that there seems to be a gap as to our participation as compared to what other countries are doing.
Though our industry participants may be smaller, there is no harm in aiming to be a global leader in design of regulations. Indeed this may be conducive to expanding our domestic industry.
I will say that $125 million split three ways is a small amount compared to what other nations are prepared to put towards this but a start is a start.
